Jesus Begins His Ministry
Isaiah 9:1-4, Matthew 4:12-23, 1 Corinthians 1:10-18
The ministry and calling of Jesus we have heard much about. How it was foretold in the Old Testament in a variety of books such as Isaiah. Jesus (the Messiah) was to come to set the captive free, to heal the sick, and to give sight to the blind. Jesus chose not to work alone. He called a handful of men to follow him.
Shortly after Jesus’ ascension the Apostle Paul is writing to the church in Corinth to cease their quarreling over who baptized them. They were all one in Christ as are we. And the calling of God on our lives is sure and true.
So, how do these two tie together? We too have been called by Christ to serve as “fishers of men.” We are called into one body of which Christ is the head. We are called to serve the Father by serving our neighbors. Quite simple really, yet very involved.
